The significance of packaging innovation in brewing
Aluminium cans are emerging as one of the most effective packaging formats for modern brewers. They are lightweight, infinitely recyclable, and protect beverages from environmental factors while preserving flavour integrity. Their format also enables convenient transport, efficient shelf use, rapid chilling, and 360-degree branding possibilities: all key advantages in a competitive market.
Moreover, packaging plays a decisive role in how consumers perceive a brand. Research shows that up to 70% of purchase decisions are made at the shelf, and packaging is often the first, and sometimes only, opportunity a brand has to convey its values. For brewers, especially in the craft or premium segment, aluminium cans combine these functional benefits with powerful opportunities for storytelling.
Recognising how these advantages can unlock new opportunities for Indian brewers, we are setting up a state-of-the-art aluminium can manufacturing facility in Uttar Pradesh. Strategically located near major beverage hubs, the plant will enable faster delivery, greater flexibility, and access to global-standard packaging for all brands.

Our evolution into aluminium cans
AGI Greenpac has long been a trusted partner to India’s beverage industry, providing high-quality, customisable glass bottles supported by advanced technologies like colouring forehearth and in-house design services. Building on this strong foundation, we are now expanding into aluminium cans, with a committed investment of INR 1,000 crore (approximately USD 114 million) to set up a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Uttar Pradesh.
Indian Craft Spirits Winning Hearts
The first phase of this facility will focus on producing 950 million cans annually, with plans to increase capacity to 1.6 billion. This move allows us to offer brewers a comprehensive packaging portfolio that combines the timeless appeal of glass bottles with the modern benefits of aluminium cans.
By leveraging our existing customer relationships, distribution networks, and supply chain efficiencies, AGI Greenpac is well-positioned to provide integrated packaging solutions that cater to the evolving needs of India’s beverage and F&B industries.
Leading through strategic innovation
Our aluminium vision is built on a strong and diverse foundation of innovation, sustainability, and operational synergy.
Sustainability at the Core: Aluminium’s recyclability is one of its greatest strengths, with estimates suggesting that upto 91% of beverage cans produced in India are recycled, driven largely by the metal’s retrieval value. Our aluminium initiative embodies circular economy principles at scale, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable packaging.
Operational Leverage: AGI’s existing manufacturing footprint has helped create and nurture strong supply chains, logistics capabilities, and trusted relationships across the beer, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverage sectors. Extending this integration to aluminium cans means faster onboarding for customers, smoother transitions in production runs, and better inventory management.
Speed and Agility: Aluminium cans offer significant advantages for small production runs and frequent label changes, thanks to swift line changeovers and in-house graphic platemaking. These capabilities provide brewers with enhanced flexibility, especially for premium or seasonal SKUs.
Beyond infrastructure, we are also investing in R&D and design partnerships to develop offerings that continue to meet both customer and market expectations. These innovations are targeted to help brewers deliver products with confidence and compliance in both domestic and international markets.

The road ahead: Quality, choice, and collaboration
The brewing industry in India is poised for growth, with beer consumption rising steadily across tier-1 and emerging markets alike. AGI Glaspac is well-positioned as we cater to approximately 20% of the domestic glass container market, with capacity enhancements underway. We recognise that choice empowers brewers to navigate shifting consumption patterns and sustainability trends.
Moreover, our commitment to building high-quality, sustainable packaging spans both categories. A recent collaboration with UK-based Glass Futures underscores our efforts to drive low-carbon glass production. In aluminium, the new facility is not merely about can‑making - it is about forging the next generation of green packaging infrastructure in India.
As our industry becomes increasingly export-oriented, packaging also plays a vital role in compliance with international sustainability and labelling requirements. Our goal is to serve not only as a supplier but also as a strategic partner that helps breweries enter new markets with a reputation for quality and responsibility.
The craft of Indian brewers deserves packaging that complements it. Not just protecting the product but also reflecting their values. At AGI Glaspac, our pursuit is to offer not just packaging, but thought‑partners in sustainability, design, and scale. We remain committed to providing Indian breweries with packaging options that are beautiful, responsible, and resonant.
