Freshly brewed flavours of Chaos

Godless is a 4 piece death metal band based out of India that have taken their crafty guitar riffs all over the world. They are about to launch their new album ‘States of Chaos’. During their travels across the globe, the band members got to explore different cultures and something they always looked out for was good beer.

We met up with the band members on the verge of releasing their 3rd record at Aurum Brew Works on the 14th of November, 2021. We were there to celebrate the launch of ‘Netherworld’ a beer brewed in collaboration with George Jacob, Head Brewer at Aurum Brew Works. This is the band’s second beer collaboration; the first one was launched in Hyderabad’s ‘Over the Moon’ in 2020.

Netherworld is their latest collabrew and it is a Belgian Dark Strong Ale that was inspired by the Trappist beer, Westvleteren 12. You can read more about Netherworld here.

Westvleteren 12

Tasting Notes of Netherworld

Loads of dark malt, Abbey type Belgian yeast, hardly any hops to allow for the yeast and malt to be the heroes.

On the nose, dark fruit like raisins, plums, figs, a hint of caramel and jaggery follow with alcohol spice in the background.

On the palate, medium-bodied with dark fruits and esters. Finishes dry so keeps you drinking more and more.

Godless was formed in 2016 in Hyderabad. They credit Slayer, Death, Morbid Angel, Decapitated, Necrophagist, Carcass, etc. as some of their influences. They have released 2 EPs before this. Their first full-length album ‘States of Chaos’ comes out on November 19th, 2021.

The band has taken their signature Godless sound they have created and toured around 10 countries so far. They always make it a point to try local brews everywhere they go. When asked about their favourite ones they said “We’ve been on multiple tours and honestly, have lost count of them now. We’ve visited around 10 countries so far. It’s difficult to remember what we had and where, but here are some of the beers we’ve tried and loved – Westvleteren 12 of course, Schöfferhofer, Franziskaner, Paulaner, Kozel, Schneider Weisse, Rothaus, Rochefort 10, Westmalle Trappist, St Bernadus, Bierbichler, Anchor Porter to name a few.”

Band Members of Godless

We asked the band about their upcoming album launch tour and this is what they had to say: “We’re finally getting back on the road after almost 2 years of silence. We’ve got a new album which we’re excited to play live. We’re going to be hitting 6 cities – Guwahati, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai and Pune. We’ll be playing a bunch of the new material live along with old stuff. We look to continue playing live in support of the new album over the next year.”

Wishing Godless good luck for their new endeavour, we parted ways having tasted a Belgian Dark Strong Ale that left a lot of fruity flavours on our palate.
